what you drew is absolutely astounding! the attention you have to small details like the muscle diffinition is a true talent! the hair on the mane and tail are almost perfect as well as the sand being kicked up around it. the shading and lighting contrast that you did on this picture are great and very realistic in my thoughts. are you wiling to do a request because i would love one after seeing this work of art i feel very free in fact when i look at this drawing and i think i will be following you after this critique
The detail and shading are exquisite, very realistic but not to the point where they'd lose the artistic look to excessive photorealism. There is an enjoyable contrast between the highlights and the dark areas - the forms are well defined, the muscles are clearly visible which shows the tension of movement. The mane and tail are excellently drawn, I like how they wave and blend with the background to complete the dynamic feeling. As for the background itself, it's better than the original, it creates the feeling the horse is running through mists and dustclouds, which makes the scene much more dramatic.
The one big drawback which I see is the composition of the piece. It feels somehow "floating" - the horse is not in the center (which is seldom a good decision) but not positioned by the 1/3 rule either and considering the lack of other objects around it, this stands out. Also, it's feet need more space underneath, even though they are not entirely visible. The viewer subconsciously "completes" them and then the horse "falls out" from the picture.
Technically, the drawing is truly excellent, and I consider a better composition would have turned it into a masterpiece.
Thanks for the very kind words!! I also love this image... it has been sold and when the new owner took it, I was honestly saddened. But, that is why we create! So, thank you so much again!
